Mining has been making the rounds in the national and regional news in the Philippines.
With the public’s growing dismay over investors  have  intensified  their  “responsible and sustainable mining”
information  campaign  by  investing  on  expensive advertisements.

To counter this pro-mining information drive, CEC-Phils seeks venues to explain the real state of the mining industry. Last February 15, CEC-Phils, held an exhibit and forum on mining at San Beda College, through the help of its NSTP Department. During the forum, the profits, hazards, policy and challenges of the mining industry were tackled by Cheamson Boongaling of CEC-Phils and Lisa Ito of Kalikasan Partylist. Meanwhile, Francis Morales of the peasant alliance Panalipdan Mindanao shared the mining situation in the South, and explained how it has contributed to the people's problems. Ending the forum was Kabataan Partylist Representative Raymond Palatino, who encouraged the students and the youth to take a pro-active and pro-people stance in environmental issues such as mining.

The half-day event was part of San Beda's NSTP Week celebration, and was attended by a total of 300 students.

Venue:

San Beda College, Mendiola, Manila
