A series of people’s conferences and actions against destructive mining leading to the anniversary of the passage of the Mining Act of 1995 led by Kalikasan PNE and the Defend Patrimony! Alliance

ACTION 1: Luzon Conference on Mining and the Ecology
FEBRUARY 28 8:30AM-6:30PM at the UST Medicine Auditorium
A whole day conference organized by the University of Santo Tomas, Center for Environmental Concerns-Philippines and Save Palawan Movement, including international speakers mining & food security expert Clive Wicks and water quality expert and mining engineer Jim Kuipers. Other speakers include Mayor Eduard Hagedorn, mining ecology doctorate Dr. Lina Regis, People’s Mining Bill co-author Rep. Luz Ilagan, and more.

ACTION 2: North Luzon People’s Protest Caravan
FEBRUARY 29 8:00AM-5:00PM at the Chamber of Mines, Ortigas cor. Meralco Avenue
Kalikasan PNE alongside indigenous people and other grassroots activists from Northern Luzon, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon under the network Amianan Salakniban will conduct a protest caravan denouncing destructive large-scale and magnetite mining. The caravan will start with a program at the Chamber of Mines going to the offices of Colossal Mining, Dizon Mines, Philex, Lepanto, Benguet Mining, Red Earth, Coolaba and Lassater.

ACTION 3: The Third National People’s Mining Conference
MARCH 1-2 at the Tagaste Retreat House, Augustinian Recollect Sisters, Magallanes Drive, Sta. Rita Tagaytay City
Kalikasan PNE alongside the Ecumenical Bishops Forum, Kalipunan ng Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas (KAMP), Center for Environmental Concerns-Philippines (CEC-Phils), Stewards of Creation and the Defend Patrimony! Alliance aims to convene 200 organizations and formations to consolidate the people’s experiences with mining-affected communities, formulate national and local campaign strategies, and tackle emerging issues and legislative measures related to mining.

ACTION 4: Multisectoral Mobilization Pushing PNoy to Repeal Mining Act of 1995

Delegates to the National People’s Mining Conference will meet with various progressive organizations led by Kalikasan PNE and the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) to hold a protest mobilization calling for the repeal of the Mining Act of 1995, advancement of the People’s Mining Bill and the defense of national patrimony and the environment against mining liberalization and plunder.
